Setting up equipment
The first thing you will need is a PC with internet
access and a spare
USB
or serial port
. Next you will need an
X10
controller device with an interface to plug into the PC and the power socket. Follow the
X10 controller device
installation guide. If you are using a
serial port
on the PC, make a note of which one you plug the device into, it's usually COM1 or COM2. If you are using a
USB
port for the PC link to the controller, a virtual
COM port
number will be allocated by the PC during the process of adding a device. Note the port number. Set the
address code
on your first X10 switch. Let us assume that this is A1 for the rest of the process, and plug that device in.

Always follow the manufacturer's installation
instructions for all your devices and ensure that those devices
are installed, housed, maintained and operated correctly
according to the manufacturer's instructions and the legislation
in your home country.
Remember that home automation equipment may operate at
any time due to environmental conditions, power supply
fluctuations or other external factors outside of your control.
